# Share a file

Send someone one file, such as a dashboard, a drawing or a spreadsheet, without giving them the memo or collection it lives in. Every file has its own page and link. Open the file and click **Share** to let anyone with the link view it, without an account. You can add a password and choose whether they can download it. When you upload a new version, the link shows the new one, so the client always has the current drawing.

## Turn on a file's link

1. Open the file.

2. Click **Share**.

3. Turn on **Anyone with the link can view** and confirm.

4. Click **Copy link** and send it.

Only people who can manage the file see **Share**: its owner, and anyone who can edit the memo, collection or notebook it's in.

## Add a password

Turn on **Require a password for the link** and set a password. Fieldwerk never shows it again, so note it down before you send it. Use **Change password** to set a new one.

## Stop people downloading it

Turn off **Allow download**. People with the link can still view the file and save what they see, but the download option is hidden.

## Sharing an artifact shares its data

If the file is an artifact that reads data files, its **Share** dialog lists them under **Data this artifact reads**. Turning on the link also shares those files, in full, with anyone who has it. Fieldwerk asks you to confirm first.

If the artifact later starts reading another file, that file isn't shared by itself. The dialog offers **Share it too**.

## Who can already see it

The **Share** dialog shows **Who can see this** and where the file is **Filed in**. People who can open the memo, notebook or collection a file is in can already open the file, so you only need the link for people outside those places.
