# See and restore earlier versions of a memo

Fieldwerk keeps a history of every memo. To go back, open the memo's menu, choose **View history**, pick a version and click **Restore**. Nothing is lost: the memo as it is now is saved as a new version first, so you can undo a restore. This is what makes it safe to let colleagues and your AI edit freely: you can always see who changed what, and take any change back.

## Restore an earlier version

1. Open the memo.

2. Open its menu (**More**, top right) and choose **View history**.

3. In the **History** panel, pick a version from **Versions**. Click **Load older versions** to go further back.

4. Click **Restore**, then confirm.

Only people who can edit the memo see **View history**.

## Who made each change

Each version shows who saved it, how many lines were added and removed, and how it was made. A change typed in the editor shows under the person who typed it. A change made by an AI shows the person's name followed by **via** and the AI's name, for example "Ben via Claude Code", so you can see exactly what your AI changed and restore the version before it if you need to.

## Have your AI do it

Once your AI is connected (see [Connect Claude to Fieldwerk](https://help.fieldwerk.ai/pz1hhc2mwy/connect-claude-to-fieldwerk.md) or [Connect ChatGPT to Fieldwerk](https://help.fieldwerk.ai/exh83fg13f/connect-chatgpt-to-fieldwerk.md)), it can read the history as well as add to it:

```prompt
In Fieldwerk, ask me which memo to check, then tell me what changed in it over the last week and who changed it.
```

Restoring a version is done in the browser, from the **History** panel.

## Files have their own history

Files you upload, such as a spreadsheet or an HTML artifact, keep their own versions. See [Upload a new version of a file](https://help.fieldwerk.ai/df7d4mund9/upload-a-new-version.md).
