# Get started with Fieldwerk

Sign up free, connect your AI assistant, then let it write your first memo. Fieldwerk gives you and your assistant one place to keep what you know, so a good chat becomes a memo your team can find, and your assistant can pick up where you left off. These six steps take about five minutes. New to the idea? Read [What Fieldwerk is](https://help.fieldwerk.ai/lnonp2z4uq.md) first.

Invited by someone else? Skip to [If you were invited](#if-you-were-invited).

## 1\. Sign up

Go to [fieldwerk.ai](https://fieldwerk.ai) and [sign up](https://my.fieldwerk.ai/sign-up) with your email address, or your Google or Microsoft account. It's free to start. Fieldwerk creates a workspace for you, named after you, and you land in it on **My memos**. A short setup window lets you give the workspace a name and picture; click **Done** or skip it, since both can be changed later in settings. There is no sample content, so your first memo is yours.

## 2\. Connect your AI assistant

Connect your assistant before anything else: it can then write, file and find memos for you. Follow the guide for yours:

- [Connect Claude to Fieldwerk](https://help.fieldwerk.ai/pz1hhc2mwy.md)

- [Connect ChatGPT to Fieldwerk](https://help.fieldwerk.ai/exh83fg13f.md)

For another AI tool, add Fieldwerk with the address `https://mcp.fieldwerk.ai/mcp`. Then, at the end of a useful chat, try it:

```prompt
In Fieldwerk, save a summary of this conversation as a memo, with the decisions as a task list.
```

Read more: try the prompts in [Your first week with your AI assistant](https://help.fieldwerk.ai/sniwdjoar3.md).

## 3\. Write your first memo

Ask your assistant to write it, or click **New memo** in the sidebar, type a heading for the title, and start writing. Type **/** for headings, lists, tasks and tables. Fieldwerk saves as you type.

Read more: [Create and edit a memo](https://help.fieldwerk.ai/bviloypu9k.md) and [Format a memo with headings, tables, images and more](https://help.fieldwerk.ai/g0wr3sp5y1.md).

## 4\. Put it in a collection

Collections group related memos, such as a project or a client. Ask your assistant to make one and file the memo, or click **New collection** in the sidebar, then open your memo and click **+ Add to collection**.

Read more: [Organise memos into collections](https://help.fieldwerk.ai/saoun9xu7f.md).

## 5\. Share it

Open the memo and click **Share**. Invite someone by email, or turn on the link so anyone who has it can read it.

Read more: [Share a memo with a link or with people](https://help.fieldwerk.ai/tl52qpf3a2.md).

## 6\. Let your assistant show you around

In a new workspace, ask your assistant to help you set it up:

```prompt
Look at my Fieldwerk workspace and suggest how to organise it: which collections to make and what standing instructions each should have.
```

In a team workspace, ask it to walk you through what's there:

```prompt
In Fieldwerk, introduce me to my workspace: list its collections and what each one is for (read their instructions), what's changed this week, anything waiting on me, and where I should start.
```

## Then bring your team

To work together across collections, upgrade the workspace to Pro and invite people. See [Invite people to your workspace](https://help.fieldwerk.ai/907zlfzwgv.md) and [Choose a plan and manage billing](https://help.fieldwerk.ai/h2165qrkw6.md).

## If you were invited

When someone invites you to their workspace, you start in their collections rather than an empty page.

1. Open the link in your invite email.

2. Sign in, or sign up with the email address the invite was sent to.

3. Click **Join** with the workspace's name. You land on **All collections**, showing the collections you've been given.

4. [Connect your AI assistant](#2-connect-your-ai-assistant), then ask it to introduce you to the workspace:

```prompt
In Fieldwerk, introduce me to my workspace: list its collections and what each one is for (read their instructions), what's changed this week, anything waiting on me, and where I should start.
```

Your own **My memos** starts empty; the team's work is in those collections. If you were invited as a guest to a single memo, you'll find it under **Shared with me** instead.

From there, [Write your first memo](#3-write-your-first-memo) and [Share it](#5-share-it) work the same. To see how collections, notebooks and workspaces fit together, read [How Fieldwerk is organised](https://help.fieldwerk.ai/duysi66dh8.md).
