# Install the Fieldwerk Mac app

The Mac app is for people who live in Fieldwerk all day. It gives Fieldwerk its own window with tabs, a quick-note shortcut that captures a thought from any app in a second, a menu bar icon that shows sync at a glance, and two-way sync between collections and folders on your Mac. It's the same Fieldwerk you use in the browser, so everything is always current, and the app keeps itself up to date.

## What you need

- A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later).

- macOS 10.15 or later.

## Install it

1. Go to the [download page](https://fieldwerk.ai/download) and click **Download for Mac**.

2. Open the downloaded file and drag Fieldwerk into your Applications folder.

3. Open Fieldwerk and sign in.

## Write a quick note from anywhere

Press **Option+Shift+Space** in any app, or choose **New quick note** from the menu bar icon. A small window opens, you type, and it saves as you go. The thought is in Fieldwerk before you've lost it. See [Create and edit a memo](https://help.fieldwerk.ai/bviloypu9k/create-and-edit-a-memo.md).

## Use tabs and windows

- **New Tab** (Cmd+T) and **New Window** (Cmd+N) work as in a browser, with **Back**, **Forward** and **Reload**.

- **Open in Browser** opens what you're looking at in your browser.

- **Zoom In**, **Zoom Out** and **Actual Size** change the text size.

## Open Fieldwerk links in the app

In the app's **Settings…**, under **General**, turn on **Open Fieldwerk links in this app**. Links to Fieldwerk you click in email, Slack or your browser then open in the app. Choose whether they open in a **New tab** or **New window**, and whether to **Switch to a tab already showing the page**.

## Use the menu bar icon

The Fieldwerk icon in the menu bar shows whether folder sync is **Up to date**, **Syncing…** or needs you. Its menu has **New quick note**, **Open Fieldwerk**, **Sync now**, **Recent sync activity…**, **Check for updates…** and **Settings…**. ## Keep it up to date

Under **Settings…**, **General**, leave **Install updates automatically** on. Updates download quietly and start the next time Fieldwerk opens. **Check for Updates** checks straight away.
