# How member types work

Your team are full members, and clients and other outsiders are guests or limited members. That one rule decides what people see and what you pay: full members reach everything shared with the workspace, limited members reach only the collections you choose at a lower seat price, and guests reach only the memos shared with them and never cost anything.

|  | Reaches | Paid seat | Plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Owner | Everything shared with the workspace, plus private collections they're invited to. Holds billing and the workspace itself | Yes, full seat | Free and Pro |
| Admin | The same as a full member, and manages people and settings | Yes, full seat | Pro |
| Full member | Everything shared with the workspace, plus private collections they're invited to | Yes, full seat | Pro (on Free, the owner is the only member) |
| Limited member | Only the collections they're invited to, at view, comment or edit | Yes, limited seat | Pro only |
| Guest | Only the memos shared with them | No | Free and Pro |

Seat prices and guest numbers are on [Choose a plan and manage billing](https://help.fieldwerk.ai/h2165qrkw6/choose-a-plan-and-manage-billing.md). How to invite and change people is on [Invite people to your workspace](https://help.fieldwerk.ai/907zlfzwgv/invite-people-to-your-workspace.md).

## What each type can do

- Full members and admins see every collection shared with the workspace, create collections, see the member, group and tag lists and the workspace instructions, and can take over what someone owned when that person leaves.

- Admins also invite, change and remove full members, limited members and guests. Only the owner can invite, change or remove admins.

- The owner is the only person who can upgrade, manage billing, make someone else the owner, archive the workspace or delete it. Each workspace has one owner.

- Limited members see the workspace in their switcher with a home page and sidebar showing only their collections. They can't create collections or see the workspace-wide pages. Collections they own stay theirs. If the workspace only allows members from approved domains, limited members follow the guest rule, so you can still invite people from outside.

- Guests don't see the workspace at all. Their memos appear under **Shared with me**. A guest invite can carry an expiry date.

## Changing someone's type

- Admins move people between full member, limited member and admin from **Members** in **Workspace settings**. Moving someone to limited member asks which collections they keep.

- Nobody becomes a guest by changing type. When you remove someone who has memos shared with them directly, Fieldwerk offers to keep their access as a guest on those memos.

- Removing someone first asks who takes over what they own.

## Seats follow the people in the workspace

- Paid seats are the owner, admins, full members and limited members who have joined and are active. Pending invites, guests and disabled members cost nothing.

- A change that raises your monthly total partway through a billing period, such as adding someone or moving a limited member up to full, is charged pro rata on your next invoice.

- A change that lowers it, such as removing someone, isn't credited for the current period. The next invoice bills the new mix of seats.

## Have your AI do it

Ask your AI (see [Connect Claude to Fieldwerk](https://help.fieldwerk.ai/pz1hhc2mwy/connect-claude-to-fieldwerk.md) or [Connect ChatGPT to Fieldwerk](https://help.fieldwerk.ai/exh83fg13f/connect-chatgpt-to-fieldwerk.md)) who's in the workspace and what type they are:

```prompt
In Fieldwerk, list the members of my workspace with their roles.
```

Before changing or removing someone, ask what they own and where they're named:

```prompt
In Fieldwerk, show me the members of my workspace and ask which one to look at. Then tell me what they own, what they've been granted, and anywhere they're still named in a property or view.
```
