Getting started
- What Fieldwerk isFieldwerk is one place where your team and your AI assistant work from the same notes. Memos are pages, collections are a project's home, and a workspace holds it all.
- Get started with FieldwerkSign up free, connect your AI assistant, then let it write your first memo, file it, share it and show you around your workspace. Six steps, each linked to a full guide.
- How Fieldwerk is organisedFieldwerk has four layers. Memos are documents. Collections group memos and set who can see them. Notebooks group memos inside a collection. A workspace holds it all for a team.
Memos
- Create and edit a memoClick New memo in the sidebar, type a heading for the title, and start writing. Fieldwerk saves as you type, and several people can edit at once.
- Format a memo with headings, tables, images and moreType / in a memo to add headings, lists, tasks, quotes, code, tables, dividers and images, or type Markdown and it converts as you go. Select text for bold, links and comments.
- Comment on a memo and mention peopleSelect text and click Comment to start a thread on that passage. Type @ to mention someone, assign the thread to them, and resolve it when it's done.
- See and restore earlier versions of a memoEvery change to a memo is kept. Open View history from the memo's menu, pick a version and click Restore. Restoring is itself saved as a new version, so you can always undo it.
- Lock, archive or delete a memoLock a memo to stop all edits and new comments. Archive it to make it read-only and hide it from lists. Move it to trash to delete it, with time to restore it first.
- Find memos with searchPress Cmd+K (Ctrl+K on Windows) to find memos, collections, notebooks and files, jump to a page or run a command. The box on My memos searches the full text of your memos.
Collections and notebooks
- Organise memos into collectionsA collection is a project's home that your team and your AI assistant work from. Create one from the sidebar, All collections or a memo, then file memos in with + Add to collection.
- Group memos inside a collection with notebooksA notebook splits a collection into smaller sets (one per client, sprint or site) without re-sharing anything. It has its own views and standing instructions. Create one with New notebook.
- Track work with propertiesProperties like status, owner and due date turn memos into work you can run on a board, table or calendar. Add them in View settings, Edit properties; your AI assistant reads and sets the same ones.
- See a collection as a list, board, table, calendar or timelineViews are saved tabs that show the same memos as a list, board, table, calendar, timeline or canvas. Add one with Add view, then filter, sort and group it, and Save for everyone.
- Give a collection standing instructionsStanding instructions are the brief for a collection: what belongs, how to name things, which properties to set. AI assistants follow them before they write. Add them in the collection's Instructions tab.
Files, versions and artifacts
- Add files and linksAttach files and links to a memo, or add them to a collection or notebook so they show in every view. Files up to 25 MB (video 50 MB on Free, 500 MB on Pro); storage 50 MB on Free, 2 GB on Pro.
- Upload a new version of a fileGive a file a new version and it keeps the same link, so every memo, view and artifact that uses it shows the new one. Older versions stay in its history, where you can open or restore them.
- Build an artifact that shows your dataAn artifact is an HTML page in Fieldwerk, such as a dashboard or a model, that reads CSV, TSV and JSON files in its own notebook or memo once an editor allows it. Update a file and the artifact updates itself.
Sharing and publishing
- Share a memo with a link or with peopleClick Share on a memo to get it to the right people without copying it. Invite people or guests at View, Comment or Edit, or turn on the link so anyone who has it can open the memo, with an optional password.
- Share a collection with your teamSet who can read, comment on, edit or run a whole collection in one go. Open Collection settings and choose Access: share with everyone in the workspace at one level, or only with the people and groups who need it.
- Publish a collection as a read-only pageTurn one view of a collection into a public read-only page, help centre or blog that updates as you edit memos. Choose what's shared, set a password or expiry, preview it, then click Go live.
- Put a published collection on your own domainShow a published collection at your own address, like help.yourcompany.com. A workspace admin adds it in the Publish tab, you add one DNS record, and Fieldwerk does the rest. Pro.
- Share a fileSend someone one file without giving them the memo or collection it lives in. Open the file and click Share to turn on its link, with an optional password and a choice of whether they can download it.
Workspaces, members and billing
- Invite people to your workspaceInvite your team as members from Workspace settings, Members; the role sets what they see and whether they take a seat. Share single memos with clients as free guests from the Share dialog instead.
- How member types workYour team are full members; clients are guests or limited members. Full members reach everything shared with the workspace, limited members only chosen collections, guests only chosen memos and never cost a seat.
- Manage your workspace settingsWorkspace settings is where owners and admins decide who can get in, what can leave and how the workspace looks when shared: name and avatar, members, groups, security, share links, assistant instructions and billing.
- Choose a plan and manage billingFree is for one person and their AI assistant and never expires. Pro is per member: US$5 (NZ$10) a month, limited members US$3 (NZ$5), with 2 GB storage and unlimited AI changes. Only the owner manages billing.
Working with AI
- What AI assistants can do in FieldwerkA connected assistant works as you: it captures notes, finds and pulls memos together, organises, runs reviews through comments, shares, and builds pages from your data.
- Your first week with your AI assistantSeven prompts, one a day, that hand your filing, summarising and comment round-trips to your assistant, each with what you'll have afterwards.
- Connect Claude to FieldwerkAdd Fieldwerk to Claude as a custom connector with the address https://mcp.fieldwerk.ai/mcp, then approve it in Fieldwerk. Works in Claude on the web, Claude Desktop and Claude Code.
- Connect ChatGPT to FieldwerkWorks on any ChatGPT plan, Free included. Turn on developer mode, add Fieldwerk with the address https://mcp.fieldwerk.ai/mcp, approve it in Fieldwerk, and allow its actions.
- Connect other AI tools to FieldwerkAny AI tool that supports MCP, including coding agents and AI editors, can work in Fieldwerk at https://mcp.fieldwerk.ai/mcp. Steps for Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Zed and v0.
Desktop app
- Install the Fieldwerk Mac appThe Fieldwerk Mac app puts Fieldwerk in its own window with tabs, a menu bar icon, quick notes from anywhere, and two-way folder sync. It runs on Apple silicon Macs and updates itself.
- Sync a collection to a folder on your MacThe Mac app turns a collection into a folder of Markdown files kept in step both ways, so any editor, tool or coding agent on your Mac can write memos. Conflicts are held for you to decide.
Security and privacy
- Sign in and keep your account secureNo Fieldwerk password: sign in with a one-time email code, Google, Microsoft or a passkey. Turn on two-factor under Profile, Security. A Pro workspace can require it of everyone, guests included.
- How Fieldwerk protects your contentOnly the people, links and AI assistants you allow can open your content, all checked by the same rules. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, HTML artifacts run in a sandbox, and assistants can be revoked at any time.
- Delete your account or workspaceDelete your account from Personal settings, Account, once you've handed over or left every workspace; it's gone straight away. Owners delete a workspace from Workspace settings, Manage, with 30 days to restore it.
